Shadowboxes and scrapbooks are excellent ways to hang on to those little items, photos and knick-knacks that we hold so dear. This kitschy, simple tutorial that I spied over at Giddy Giddy is all of those things wrapped up in one… plus it doubles as fantastic wall art!

I'm a recent follower and avid reader of Holly Neufeld's craft-tacular family blog, {creat*loves}, and when I saw this DIY Baby Mobile tutorial go up I immediately contacted her about letting us borrow it to share it with you awesome folks!

This tutorial is actually ultra simple and uses just a few inexpensive crafting supplies that you may already have laying around: felt, buttons, embroidery hoops, yarn, needle and thread. And don't stop at flowers… think of spaceship shapes, circles and triangles, bugs and birds, monsters, jungle animals. There are just SO MANY possibilities!

We featured Monica (did she not look stunning? in her green dress, cast and all!) and Paul's wedding on Offbeat Bride a few days ago.  Now the lovely wedded couple are new parents of a bouncing and beautiful girl, Amber Cassandra! Monica was kind enough to share her adorable baby bow tutorial made out of fabric scraps, and we're stoked to feature this simple but cutesy patootsey DIY project! – Offbeat Shrie

I didn’t really plan this project. I just thought “Hmm, what can I do with these extra scraps of fabric?” and ended up with this headband idea! Please keep in mind that I measured nothing and am just giving my best guesstimate on the sizes of things. If anyone else tries this and finds better dimensions, let us know so we can pass it on!

In keeping with my haphazard style, the pictures are not to scale relative to the end product or each other. I’m just trying to remember, months later, how I made this thing in order to give you a rough guide. I didn’t have a crochet hook when I made mine and I paid dearly for it. You definitely want one or something like it when making the headband portion of this.

Ben and Joriel and Sage and their onesie

Joriel with her husband Ben and son Sagan -- Ben's holding the onesie he made, and Sagan is modeling a shirt Joriel decorated

When I suggested decorating baby onesies at Ariel and Andreas' recent baby shower, I wasn't surprised that there was some trepidation in my group of co-hosts. One friend gently suggested that maybe A&A didn't need 30 pieces of their guests' handiwork — "if it were me, I wouldn't want to feel obligated to dress my baby in puffy-paint shirts every day of the month."

It's true that not everyone is a natural artist. I've been to other onesie-decorating baby showers, and the results have often been disappointing. Even the process can be stressful if people don't feel like they know what they're doing. But as a long-time crafter, I have faith that anyone can make something adorable with the right tools and support.

As you can see from the pictures, our experience worked out beautifully. Guests had a great time and the onesies they created were cute as can be. Here's what I learned about helping a group of people of all ages and talents craft awesome onesies:
