We live in a mid-century modern house that backs to trees, so we wanted the room to be modern and reflect the natural landscape outside. We also needed it to be gender-neutral, as we declined to learn the sex of the baby, and would like to use the room as-is for any future babies. We painted trees on one wall to bring the natural landscape in. I am a huge fan of Charley Harper, though couldn't afford to buy original prints of his for the room–so we framed pages from one of his children's books in Ikea frames.

Rather than purchase new furniture for the room, we bought a mid-century dresser and side table that can be used anywhere in the house once a nursery is no longer needed. We had an Ikea Poang lounge chair and ottoman so just purchased new cushions for it, and the only new furniture in the room is the crib ($99) and the wall-mounted shelves, also from Ikea.
