There seem to be a cavalcade of cutesy, feminine DIY projects for the baby girls of our funny little world, but what is seriously lacking are some rad projects and ideas for our mud-buggin', bouncing-of-the-walls little boys! Well, this is no longer the case because February is "Celebrate the Boy" month over at Made By Rae.

At Sundance this week, one of the most talked-about films is an indie comedy about a lesbian couple (played by Annette Bening and Julianne Moore) who are "unwillingly reunited" with the anonymous sperm donor (played by Mark Ruffalo) who fathered their two teenaged children. From everything I've read about "The Kids Are All Right," it sounds like it's a complete winner and completely hilarious. New York Magazine says:

This may turn out to be one of the most significant lesbian films yet made — especially because it's premiering in the long shadow of Prop 8. But straight marrieds will have little trouble identifying with the undermining, bitching, nagging, teasing, and reconciling, either: Lighthearted and uproariously funny, it's not at all a gay-marriage film, but just a great film about marriage.

Bonus: the son character is named "Laser." Why didn't I think of that?!

babyhat_sweater_finalWant a warm, homemade, snuggly little hat for your wee ones that won't fall off their wee little head while you're in the midst of carting them to and fro, picking them up, putting them down etc? This Wool "won't come off" Baby Helmet is a terrific, easy DIY project that requires little sewing, a repurposed sweater and just a bit of time. Sounds like a win-win-win to me!

Future Craft Collective posted this free tutorial via the Craftzine.com blog for all you wonderful mammas and papas to try. If you want to get zany and customize it you could applique shapes on the outside portion, embroider your kid's name or attach baubles or even sequins! If you test it out, please post links to your pics for us to see!

The coolest fucking "rocking Vespa" EVAR!!!!

Found this bad boy over at Greenwala. Apparently a proud grandpa upcycled his old Vespa into this amazing gift for his grandson, Diego. (Love that name, it's my first child's name… and by "first child," I mean my cat. A cat who's "grandpa" will never make him anything this cool.)

I've been blessed with a relatively good sleeper by newborn standards, but even good sleepers have rough nights … and lord knows I've got friends who've said they basically didn't get more than two hours of sleep in a row for the first year. And so, for sleep deprived parents everywhere, I offer this song by Danish bubblegum pop singer Nabiha, which will make you feel like dancing around even if, well, you're fucking exhausted:

(God, I loves me some good bubblegum Euro pop!)
