Founded by Ariel Meadow Stallings, the author who brought you Offbeat Bride: Creative Alternatives for Independent Brides and offbeatbride.com, Offbeat Mama seeks to celebrate and empower women as they navigate the realities of parenting.
We believe that while having a child changes your life forever, it doesn’t necessarily mean abandoning your identity.
Offbeat Mama continues the driving theme of Offbeat Bride: encouraging women to integrate their existing identities into situations that tell them they should drop it all and follow the template. For offbeat brides, this means that even if you're a rockabilly/goth/hippie/sci-fi nerd/tomboy/whatever, once you get engaged you're told you should like big white dresses and froofy cake.
Many women encounter similar expectations with parenting — even if you're a rockabilly/goth/hippie/sci-fi nerd/tomboy/whatever, once you have a kid you're told you should like pastels and minivans. We support mothers integrating their pre-kid identities and lifestyles into their post-kid realities.
We believe each mother has the right to make her own educated decisions about what works for her and her family. Our only shoulds are loving your children and caring for them responsibly and with educated intent.
While we address parenting hot-topics, we do so in the context of lighthearted and proactive inspiration — never condemnation.
Offbeat Mama doesn’t subscribe to any particular parenting philosophy or dogma, as we believe that every family and situation is unique, and what works for one Offbeat Mama in one situation may not work for another.
We view Offbeat Mama as a bit of an experiment and pilot program — one we're hoping will work.
