I'm quickly learning that schlepping is a key ingredient of motherhood. I schlep the baby around the house, schlep a burp rag with me from room to room, schlep him into a sling when we go out, and schlep his diaper bag along as well. So I'm all for a 2-in-1 item that reduces my schlep.

Enter Kemby's Sidekick bag. This thing is a stroke of genius, and in fact the design has totally been patented. See, it's not only an insanely styley diaper bag … it also converts into a side sling. No need to schlep both a sling and a bag when you head out, because the bag BECOMES the sling. It's like a Transformers, only less Michael Bay explosions and Shia Labeouf saying "No no no no."

I got my hands on a Kemby Sidekick to review — and I've got an extra to give away to a reader! This thing is seriously FANTHEE, and when I say FANTHEE, I mean fancy but with a lisp that makes it even more so.

I'm bitter that Tavi's still a too small to fit in the sling (Kemby's Sidekick works best for babies 5 months and up), but I'm embarrassed to admit how much time I spent this week preening over the bag and appreciating all the little design details. I think maybe it's because I spent my childhood obsessing over Sanrio products with tiny little boxes and drawers and 2"x2" pads of paper with inch-long pencils, but I'm a huge fan of a place for everything and everything in its place. And ooh girl, Kemby's bag scratches that itch sooo gooood.

The bag has a magnetic front flap closure so you can get to your baby stuffs one-handed, and little pockets for everything. There's a big back pocket to hold the included changing pad, plus two external side pockets (bottles? sippy cups? iphone?) and a bottom pocket to keep used wipes separate. Under the to flap there's a big front pocket, and then the large main bag area for all your diapering supplies. It comes with an insulated bottle bag, and I don't know why I appreciate this so much (branding dork!) but the bag is shaped like Kemby's logo — a little egg. So cute! This is all to say, just as a straight-forward diaper bag, Kemby's Sidekick is a winner. The shape is great, and the design is clean.

But then there's the whole side sling conversion! So freaking cool. Basically the bag's shoulder strap becomes a waist belt — turning the bag into sort of an enormous stylin' fanny pack. A quick unzip and a flip of the bag's top flap reveals a strap to go over your shoulder and VOILA! Plop the baby on to of the bag and you've got a nice secure side sling for the kiddo. And of course you can still get into the main pocket to reach that crap that you're schlepping.

Also, not that it really matters, but I love that Kemby is a little two-mom company based here in Seattle. When I contacted them about doing a giveaway, one of the founders invited me over to her house for a visit and didn't bat an eye when I whipped out the boob to nurse Tavi. I'm a sucker for the indie bizzes that aren't afraid of mama boobs.

Anyway, while I sit here impatiently waiting for Tavi to grow so I can use the bag — I've got a green Kemby Sidekick to give away this week!
